2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport review

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

We got a good one. I know some have had issues and we worried about some of the reviews we’d read but there are many people out there who haven’t had any problems and we’re grateful and pleased we’ve had a great experience with ours so far. Ours is an Dymamic SE and has the 3D 360 camera and some other upgrades and so far we’re feeling like it’s the best car we’ve ever owned and has every gadget and feature we could ever want and more. We’re loving the Land Rover App and the ability to lock and unlock from our phones, and the ability to preheat the car on the cold mornings. Land Rover have thought of everything and we’re delighted with it. If you’re thinking of the PHEV then be honest with yourself about the type of driving you do. It works for us as we can charge from the wall box installed on the front of our house and we only do 20 miles or so per day. Using mostly EV mode we’re saving a lot on fuel, but if you are likely to be driving 50 miles + per day and charging is a challenge for you then buy the diesel. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely for us and we love it!

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

We did our research and didn’t expect any more than 25-30 miles in EV mode. This suits for the short daily drives we do and it’s convenient to charge in the driveway. In the first week, with 90 miles done, it’s only used around 30 miles of the petrol fuel range, and we’ve charged it 3 times. I’ve done the sums and it’s costing less to run for the short journeys we do than the 2.0l diesel Ford Kuga we had before this which averaged about 37mpg for similar running. (And no DFP filter to worry about any more!) These cars get some bad press about battery range and fuel consumption. If you do short journeys and are well disciplined with charging I can assure you they are cost effective to run. It may cost a bit more on longer journeys where EV battery capacity isn’t sufficient but that’s the trade off. If you do mostly short journeys around town and are prepared to charge it every 25-30 miles you do then it’s a winner. (Very short charge time of course when compared to a full electric car because of the smaller battery capacity) If your daily commute takes you further than the EV range allows, buy the diesel, but be honest with yourself, if you can’t be bothered plugging it in and are expecting more than 30 miles from a charge, don’t buy a PHEV. We love it though! So far so good!
